This line replaces an earlier, shorter line established by Robert Sharp (USGS) across the San Andreas fault at North Shore, one mile north of Desert Beach at the northeast corner of the Salton Sea.
The line was lengthened in March 1992 from 871 m to 1108 m to define the limits of the tilting more completely.
The stress field and resultant strain was altered at North Shore by the April 1992 Joshua Tree and June 1992 Landers earthquakes, judging from the rate of basinward tilt which trebled at North Shore.

Because of the grade separation project in the early 1940's the Shore Line in Winnetka represented the newest interurban construction with its complex cantenary and block signals.
When the Shore Line was finally abandoned in July, 1955 the Northwestern became one of the choices; the other the North Shore Line's Skokie Line which ran a few miles to the west of Winnetka.
The Skokie Line was the high speed by-pass that Insull build in the mid-1920's for the Chicago to Milwaukee trains.

On the North Shore Line, as in many similar safety initiatives in other railroad and manufacturing companies during the 1910s and 1920s, organizational change usually involved the creation of a safety department, the appointment of a safety engineer, and the formation of safety committees in which both workers and managers participated.
The details about the South Shore Line’s reconstruction between 1925 and 1929 have been told elsewhere in two standard histories of the railroad and have become something of legend and oral tradition among certain railroad history enthusiasts.
The South Shore Line that Samuel Insull, Jr., took charge of 15 July 1925 was held together for the next year, he later recalled, with “baling wire and chewing gum.” On 10 April 1926 the fragile interim system failed.

I've been studying the railway line in question (the North Shore Line, for those familiar with Sydney) for some time, and we could think of this as a scientific study in the traditional sense.
Not only that, but my North Shore Line Theory is a very good one, and I can inerrantly predict what station a train will pass next given its current position and heading.
As far as North Shore Line Theory is concerned, I don't have a scientific explanation.

Even so, the assumption that the line is static happens to be true nearly all the time, and it is absolutely necessary to have an assumption of this sort if the theory is to make any predictions.
My North Shore Line Theory would have been true throughout the entire process (as St Leonards remained between Artarmon and Wollstonecraft at all times), thus perhaps misleading me into thinking that station creation was not important to the theory.
If all I knew about the North Shore Line was the order of the stations and the fact that the order was static, I wouldn't have much understanding of it.

Skokie's Greyhound station is in the former station house of the Chicago North Shore interurban.
Red Line trains use Tracks 2 and 3, the center pair of tracks, and stop at island platforms between those center tracks at every station on this segment of the line, with the exception of Sheridan (more on Sheridan when we get there).
The North Shore interurban had a station here too; evidence of this is the platform on Track 1 well to our right.

I think cut and cover only applies as far north as Boundary Street, the tunnel should be bored through under the Roseville station area, and the station there should remain virtually untouched.
Unfortunately the gardens at the North Shore stations are nowhere near as beautiful as they used to be.
The whole North Shore line used to be beautiful, now it looks like a rubbish dump for the most part.

The Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad began operating buses in 1922 between Waukegan and Kenosha, and between Kenosha and Lake Geneva.
In 1927, a competing company Chicago-Milwaukee Coach Lines was formed, which was soon combined into Metropolitan Motor Coach Co. It is possible that Chicago-Milwaukee Coach Lines had ties to Motor Transit Corp., a predecessor to Greyhound.
In 1941, Metropolitan Motor Coach Co. was disolved as a separate subsidiary of the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad.
