Richmond is located on the fall line in the piedmont region of Virginia and is at the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
Richmond was until recently known as the 3rd largest city in Virginia behind Norfolk and Virginia Beach, but it is now the fourth largest, having been overtaken in the last census by Chesapeake, whose population is around 200,000.
Richmond city government consists of a city council with representatives from nine districts serving in a legislative and oversight capacity, as well as a popularly elected, at-large mayor serving as head of the executive branch.

Richmond International Raceway is located in Henrico County near Mechanicsville, just north of the City of Richmond corporate limits.
Henrico's first boundaries incorporated an area from which 10 Virginia counties were later formed in whole or in part, as well as the independent cities of Richmond, Charlottesville and Colonial Heights.
It has become the third Virginia county (after Arlington and Fairfax Counties) to be affected by a state law that prohibits the creation of any new towns or cities within the boundaries of a county with a population density of 1,000 or more per square mile.

At the organization meeting held in October, Henry M. Taylor, one of the leaders in the movement to establish a Post on the North Side, was elected temporary commander, and at the last meeting held in 1921 he was formally elected commander for the year 1922.
The City of Richmond presented the Post with a stand of colors which have been carried in every public parade of the Legion in Richmond, and in the parade of the San Francisco Convention, being decorated with a silver clasp for attendance at this convention.
North Richmond Post has the distinction of being the first Post in the City of Richmond to start negotiations for the purchase of a permanent home for the use of its members.

 Hebrew Cemetery—Congregation Beth Ahabah, Richmond, Virginia (VA)
The cemetery is located ay 4th and Hospital Streets on Richmond's north side and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm and by arrangement with the Temple office.
By an act of the Virginia Legislature in 1888, the Hebrew Cemetery Company was given a charter to manage the grounds.
The cemetery was further enlarged in 1911 with the purchase of 3 1/2 acres of land across the street from the original grounds.

When the Virginia House of Burgesses divided the colony into its eight original political subdivisions in 1634 it became, nominally at least, along with all the other land north of the watershed between the James and the York basins, a part of the shire of Charles River.
Here the lands north of the Mattapony remained for thirty-six years, but the lands south of the river became a part of King William ten years later when the Burgesses created that county from King and Queen’s land between the Pamunkey and the Mattapony.
