  The Staffordshire Regiment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales') or Staffords is an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the Prince of Wales' Division.
The regiment was formed in 1959 by the amalgamation of The South Staffordshire Regiment and the North Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales').
The Staffordshire Regiment will become the 3rd Battalion, Mercian Regiment (Staffords), and will operate permanently in the armoured infantry role; initially it will be based at Tidworth, but, as part of the current round of arms plotting, it will move to Fallingbostel in Germany in 2009, where it will be permanently based.

Regiment, was wounded; but, nevertheless, he persisted in remaining with his comrades, and engaged in a hand-to-hand encounter with two of the rebel artillerymen.
The regiment formed part of the expedition, was at the storming of the Fort of Reshire, the surrender of Bushire, and the battle of Kooshab; after which, with Mohumra as a “base of operations,” the army prepared to march on Ispahan.

The Staffordshire Brigade was allotted the southern portion of the North Midland Division's area of responsibility, a frontage of approximately 2,000 yards.
While the battle continued in the north, rudimentary anti-gas pads; cotton wool wrapped in gauze and soaked in chemicals, were issued to the units of the Brigade.
The Staffordshire Brigades' ten-week occupation of the sector was at an end, although several of their number were to remain as silent sentinels in nearby cemeteries.

After enlisting at Horncastle, Robert was drafted into the 7th Battalion of The North Staffordshire Regiment, again a Kitchener battalion.
The 13th December 1916 saw the British prepare operations for the recapture of the City and, on the 25th January 1917 a very large attack, in which Robert’s battalion was engaged, was initiated, the aim of which was to capture Kut itself.
The 7th North Staffords were unable to break the strong Turkish positions and suffered 300 casualties.

My father, Pte Jack Sinnott of the North Staffs, recently passed away, he was never one for talking about what he saw or did in Italy during his time there, he served from January 1944 to October 1946, before being moved on to Austria.
Before going overseas he had to live through the blitz of Liverpool so was well use to the sounds of war even before he left home, his first leave before going abroad was to come home and bury his Dad who had died at the age of 48.

Unable to return to France due to his injuries he continued to serve as a Company-Sergeant-Major to the 5th (Reserve) Battalion of the North Staffordshire Regiment, a training unit based at Mablethorpe, where he remained until he was demobilised on 14th December 1918.
By the Summer of 1916 he was serving with the 1st North Staffords on the Western Front and was again wounded at Delville Wood in August.
Unfortunately, Major G. Macnamara, Wiltshire Regiment, attached as Second in Command of the 6th North Staffordshire Regiment, was hit during this retirement and died of his wounds.
