North Thoresby is a village in Lincolnshire situated between Louth and Grimsby, approximately 12 kilometres from each with a population of about 1,000.
The area is essentially agricultural but the majority of residents work in Grimsby and Cleethorpes or in the industries situated on the Humber bank.
North Thoresby is a popular and attractive village with good facilities including two pubs (with restaurants) a number of shops, a modern primary school, surgery and pharmacy, a village hall and facilities for football, cricket and bowls.

In the early 1820's around about the time when the English written version was discovered amid great excitement at Oxford, unbeknown to the academics, a discovery was also fortunately being made independently near North Thoresby in Lincolnshire by a Lincolnshire historian from Caistor by the name of Henry Evans Smith.
It may be that this sea-farer Grim mentioned in the North Thoresby legend, could be the selfsame heroic Grim later found saving the life of Havelok, finally fleeing to England, and founding the town of Grimsby in the process.
* Lindsey was a sixth century kingdom between the Humber Estuary in the north and the Fenlands and River Witham in the south, with marshlands and sea to the east, and the flood plains of the Trent to the west; Lincoln was its capital.

Thomas Kendall was baptised on 13 December 1778 at North Thoresby, Lincolnshire, England.
In his upbringing he was influenced by the evangelical revival within the Church of England, which taught men and women to seek their salvation through the recognition of the pervasiveness of sin and the acceptance of the grace of God.
After he married, Kendall struggled to make a living as a draper and grocer in North Thoresby, but on a visit to London in November 1805 underwent the religious experience of being 'born again of the Spirit'.

When I first began looking into the story of the Patchett family at North Somercotes, it was to piece together the story of my ancestors, who lived in the village briefly, well, for a generation, before moving on, to Waltham and then Cleethorpes.
The next evidence we have for the family in North Somercotes is with the beginning of the inclusion of personal information in the national census, in 1841.
John was 49, a farmer of 50 acres in North Somercotes.

He was educated at North Thoresby village school, which was kept by the local clergyman, the Rev. William Myers.
In due course a missionary settlement was established at Rangihoua on the north side of the Bay of Islands, where the Kendalls were to continue in residence for nine uneasy years.

North Scarle was probably a secondary settlement dependent on South Scarle; its name may have the same origin, but Scaruell' and a few other forms suggest that it may originally have been "dirty spring", from scearn and OE wella "a spring".
A river-name of unknown etymology; there is no obvious source in either Germanic or Celtic, so it may be a pre-Celtic name.
North Witham (Nortuuine 1086) and South Witham take their names from the river.

The rider was airlifted to the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby, after his Yamaha bike was in collision with a car near Thoresby Auto Mart at about 2.15pm.
Police today appealed for witnesses to a fatal road accident in which a Grimsby motorcyclist died in North Thoresby.

A main route into Grimsby from the Lincolnshire coast has been closed after a car left the road and hit a house on Thursday night.
Police said no-one was hurt in the accident on the A16 at North Thoresby, but the house was badly damaged and engineers are assessing its safety.
The road, which is used by commuters from Louth and Grimsby, has been closed between North Thoresby to Ludborough.
