SITA UK is boosting its North East facilities by investing £500,000 in a new mechanical sorting unit and a major refurbishment programme at its North Tyneside Transfer Station.
Waste going to the plant is brought in to the North Tyneside plant by lorry and loaded in to the unit.

We don't have quite the same sense of being hemmed in by the urban sprawl because we have the Sea on one side and the river on the other, both of which create, in my mind at least a feeling of space.
There are still a surprising number of working farms in Tyneside, I go though four or five of them regularly on my running/cycling walkabouts.
I've been running in Tyneside since 1979, cycling since 1970 and the most exciting bit of wildlife, apart from the odd bull, has been one seal, beached on Long Sands last year.

North Tyneside police joined the search for a stolen Suburu Imprezza car with a tracker device fitted and quickly found the stolen vehicle.
The car had been stolen in the Gateshead area overnight on Wednesday, January 10 and was reported as stolen early on Thursday morning.
The tracker signal was picked up by officers driving on the Coast Road in North Tyneside at 9.42am on Thursday, January 11, and officers, following directions were able to track the stolen car to the Jesmond area and recover it at 9.47am.

The coastal strip, with its golden sands, has been a popular destination for generations of visitors and, whilst the heyday of the British seaside holiday is now a distant memory, the area still attracts visitors from far and wide.
Following representations by the author of this website to both the Developers and North Tyneside Council, it was agreed that the development would be named `Winslow Court` in recognition of the site`s historical importance.
