In 1842 the county of Coventry was abolished and Coventry was re-merged with Warwickshire.
Warwickshire came into being as a division of the kingdom of Mercia in the early 11th century, the first reference to Warwickshire was in 1001, as Waeinewiscscr named after Warwick (meaning "dwellings by the weir").
Atherstone is the headquarters of the North Warwickshire district, whereas Leamington Spa is the headquarters of the Warwick district.

Warwickshire ended North Midlands' domination of Midlands League B of the RFU National Under-20 Championship with a 29-3 win over their local rivals at Dudley Kingswinford this afternoon.
It was Warwickshire's first win over North Midlands at this age group and it denied North Midlands a place in the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time.
