Residents of the council estates in North-West Leicestershire, such as the one on which I grew up, are very pleased with the progress made since 1997 in such areas as education, employment, health and pensions, but they are baffled by the direction of housing policy.
Will the Prime Minister come with me to talk to those tenants and explain why they are facing a coerced stock transfer away from a good and successful local authority to a landlord that is likely to be less responsive, less affordable and much less accountable?

In Leicestershire, regular teaching numbers have increased from 4,800 in January 1998 to 5,220 in January 2004—a 9 per cent.
I would like to put on record my gratitude for the work of those teachers and pupils in Leicestershire who have been responsible for significant improvements in the quality of education in the county.

It involved the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Desford Colliery Band and the local Samba Band, ‘Sambando!’ The score for the piece is now with the Arts Development Officer at North West Leicestershire District Council.
