Northamptonshire County Cricket Club - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Northamptonshire Cricket Club is one of the 18 major counties which make up the English domestic cricket structure.
The club is possibly the oldest club in the present-day County Championship, having been formed as early as 1820 but substantially reorganised in 1878.
It first came to prominence in the Minor Counties championship during the 1890s, and, between 1900 and 1905, the bowling of George Thompson and William East was much too good for almost all batsmen at that level.

Greater Manchester is a metropolitan county in England established in 1974 which covers an area roughly encompassing the conurbation surrounding the City of Manchester.
For the first twelve years after the county was created in 1974, the county had a two-tier system of local government, and the boroughs shared power with the Greater Manchester County Council.
However in 1986, along with five other metropolitan county councils and the Greater London Council, the Greater Manchester County Council was abolished, and most of its powers were devolved to the boroughs, which became effective unitary authorities.

The County Championship is the domestic first class cricket competition in the United Kingdom, mainly in England.
Because, up until World War II, counties played differing numbers of matches, the points system was slightly modified so that the ratio of points to finished games (games minus draws) decided the Championship.
In 1910 the system was modified so that the order was based on ratio of matches won to matches played, whilst from 1911 to 1967 a variety of systems were used that generally relied on points for wins or first innings leads in games left unfinished.
