Robbins' study, funded by a group of New Jersey businesses, recommends ownership of the rails and other infrastructure on the Northeast Corridor be transferred to the federal government and that a public benefit corporation be formed to govern its operation.

 NJ Transit tunnel study for MOM line released [Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers]
According to the report, it is feasible for NJ Transit to build a $77 million pipe arch tunnel near the intersection of the Northeast Corridor Line and the Jamesburg branch freight line in the Monmouth Junction section of the township.
The $400 million MOM rail project is seeking to use existing freight lines to bring commuters from Ocean and Monmouth counties north for connecting service to New York.
According to the report, the tunnel is needed to bring southbound trains on the Northeast corridor across the other three tracks of the line to the eastern Jamesburg branch for service east through Monmouth County and south to Ocean County.

The Northeast line is expected to qualify for federal funding because it projects a ridership of about 18,000, which is comparable to the projections for the South Corridor line.

In an effort to improve Amtrak service between major cities along the East Coast, a group of business leaders Tuesday proposed transferring ownership of the Northeast Corridor rail line to the federal government.
It would contract with Amtrak to manage the line and would provide accountability to the much-criticized rail service.
Amtrak's Northeast Corridor is the busiest railroad in North America, with more than 1,700 trains operating over some portion of the Washington-Boston route each day.

The station consists of a lower level serving the Main Line, an intermediate level serving the Northeast Corridor and an upper level concourse area housing management, operations, retail, ticketing, etc. The Main/Bergen Connection Project involves construction of two new tracks over which Bergen County and Pascack Valley trains would be routed to the Main Line.

Two Northeast men were killed in separate incidents last month when they were struck by passing Amtrak trains as they walked on property near the railroad tracks.
Dennis Kemmerer, 28, of the 4200 block of Marple St. in Holmesburg, was struck and killed on March 25 at 10:23 p.m., according to the police department’s accident investigation unit.

The NJT lot is now shared with a Shop Rite supermarket, but there is supposed to be a separate area just for NJT passengers.
All it would cost you is the $2.75 rail fare each way per person into and out of Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, where you can of course connect with AMTRAK's network in three directions.
