As president of Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar - a school of 4,200 students on two campuses - Denson is credited with helping the college establish a $4.5 million dairy training facility with Iowa State University.
As president of one of the state's largest community colleges, Denson is expected to be an advocate at the Iowa Legislature for all of the state's 15 community colleges.

Humanities Iowa and Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) have partnered to sponsor a series of three films and discussions on the role of the family in Russian, Jewish and Latino cultures for people in the diverse northeast Iowa town of Postville and surrounding communities.
With funding provided by a grant from Humanities Iowa, NICC project director Georgie Klevar assembled a diversity team that developed a multicultural and moderated film series on the unifying themes surrounding family life in Russian, Jewish and Latino cultures.
Humanities Iowa also sponsored a statewide lecture tour by the filmmaker in 1999 with stops in Iowa City, Red Oak, Sioux City and Des Moines.
