		Libraries often become geek magnets, due to the vast collection of knowledge available in paper, magnetic and meat form.
		Since a library generates a 50% boost to knowledge production, the city must be generating at least 2 knowledge arrows to get a bonus, and at that level the library barely justifies its cost of upkeep.

		Northern Picture Library were a short-lived band of artists that came together in the early 90's after the demise of Sarah Records' Field Mice, a group featuring the very same members of NPL, among others.
		After one last single, "Paris," Northern Picture Library disbanded in the wake of Wratten and Davies' romantic fallout; the former resurfaced in 1996 with the LP Her Handwriting, a solo project issued under the name Trembling Blue Stars.
		Northern Picture Library were formed by Bobby Wratten, Annemari Davies and Mark Dobson after The Field Mice split in 1991.

	Northern Picture Library biography at LTM
		In the spring of 1992, a few months after The Field Mice split, NPL was born in the shape of a home demo containing rough ideas for songs written by singer and songwriter Bobby Wratten and his partner Annemari Davies.
		NPL were contracted to record an album for French label Danceteria, but unfortunately the company folded before a note had been recorded.
		However, NPL were not content with releasing an album of ambient dance coupled with bizarre samples, and wanted to challenge the listener by combining these strange creations with more straightforward pop songs.

		People add scale to the picture, whether it be a scenic view or a shot of an engineer fixing a computer; the figure gives dimension to the subject matter.
		They also humanise it; a picture of a school child looking at something in a test tube is far more appealing than a shot of just some inanimate stuff in a test tube.

		I put work in Northern Picture Library some 20 years ago and had a few sales in the beginning.
		Northern were taken over by Stockwave in 1999 and apart from an enquiry as to where a picture was taken, no sales.
		He's now the Chairman of one of the biggest Picture Libraries in Europe,all from small beginnings...so it can be done.

		After configuring the LM for a Stay, John took at series of pictures out his window, AS16-113- 18296 to 18303; and Charlie took a series out his window, AS16-113-18304 to 18310.
		The first two are "post-sneak" pictures of the rock showing John's footprints and the sampler imprints, and the last shows the boulder after John tips it over.
		Pictures taken during these field exercises were developed and then studied by the crew to improve their technique.

	Still Life - Northern Picture Library - Song Listings
		Besides the Alaska album, Northern Picture Library released a slew of EPs during their brief existence, handily collected some years later on the Still Life compilation via Vinyl Japan.
		Robert Wratten and Annemari Davies split the lead vocals pretty evenly throughout, though Davies has the better voice for the music, quietly passionate and well-suited for the arrangements.
		Certainly Still Life makes clear that Northern Picture Library was a driftier, more electronic experience, but the sweet guitar twang on the excellent "Northern Windmills" and the ringing crunch of "Paris" demonstrate more of the connections to the past.

		In his work with the Field Mice, Northern Picture Library and Trembling Blue Stars, Bobby Wratten's muse has always pecked around the moments shared with the women he has loved.
		While wildly successful on four tracks like "Sometimes I Still Feel the Bruise" and "Dark Eyes" (which even suggests Bobby's muse may be moving to a new woman), this is ultimately the least satisfying of the three great records.
		While better than Northern Picture Library, Broken By Whispers nonetheless recalls those days of Bobby's second band; "Fragile", "Snow Showers" and "Sleep" are more about sustaining the mood of previous songs than building upon them.
