| | Northern Region Description - Albert Environment |
 | | Geographically the region is diverse, ranging from the foothills and eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in the southwest, to vast stretches of boreal forest with areas of permafrost in the north, up to the Alberta/Northwest Territories border. |
 | | There is a wide array of natural resources in the Region including extensive oil sands resources, oil and gas resources, agricultural land, hardwood and softwood timber, coal reserves, grazing land, water, wildlife, fish, recreational features, historical and archaeological resources and gravel. |
 | | The areas of the Region experiencing the most active development, however, are the mineable and in-situ oil sands resources in the Fort McMurray and Cold Lake areas. |
