	Status Recommendation for the northern cavefish
		The results of several years of this monitoring will be used to perform another evaluation of whether candidate status is warranted for the northern cavefish.
		1) Survey cavefish populations in caves that were not adequately surveyed during 1993-94 surveys, but had previous records of the species, or appear to be suitable and within the species' range.
		4) Study caves with large cavefish populations to determine the characteristics of those caves that are favorable to the species.

		The northern cavefish is a troglobitic (obligate cave dwelling) fish found in caves throughout southern Indiana and central Kentucky.
		This fish is not a federally endangered species, but it is listed as a species of special concern by both Indiana and Kentucky because it is found in only a small number of caves, most populations are quite small, and it has a very low reproductive rate.
		As a state endangered species, the northern cavefish is protected by state wildlife regulations and a permit is required to handle it.
