Bay Ferries Limited, referred to simply as Bay Ferries, is a ferry company operating in eastern Canada and the United States and is headquartered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Bay Ferries began operations in 1997 upon being awarded the operating licenses for ferry routes in the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine which were being discontinued by federal Crown corporation Marine Atlantic as part of cost-cutting measures.
This ferry route was initiated in 1955 by the Government of Canada at the insistence of tourism operators and fish exporters in southwestern Nova Scotia.

NFL currently operates two vessels owned by the Government of Canada: Confederation built in 1993, and Holiday Island built in 1971, joining NFL in 1997 after being declared surplus by Marine Atlantic upon completion of the Confederation Bridge.

I thought  perhaps some former and present Ferry service employees would be interested to know that their life's work was appreciated by "mainlanders" as well as the more "nautical" types.
They were operated by Northumberland Ferries, rather than CN (or later Marine Atlantic), as were the Borden boats.
I also wrote to Northumberland Ferries in 1974 and received an informative reply letter from president C.R. Hunter, which gave a brief historical account of their vessels.
