Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport's location at Highfill is better for other parts of the region, particularly fast-growing Benton County.
Johnson said the Northwest Arkansas airport's growth is ahead of schedule, although she said that brings a set of challenges.

WASHINGTON -- Two Arkansas airport managers testifying on Capitol Hill said Thursday security upgrades being ordered by the federal government are sapping funds their cash-strapped terminals need for repairs and improvements.
Airport representatives asked lawmakers to increase funding for the improvement program to $4 billion in fiscal 2004 from the current $3.4 billion level.
Kelly Johnson said the airport's lobby area is overburdened by screening equipment, creating passanger lines that extend fromticketing to the baggage claim lobby.

We have to build it by recognizing that all the differences that exist in this increasingly diverse country - I know there are churches here in northwest Arkansas that now have service in Spanish on Sunday, which would have been unthinkable 24 years ago, when I first started traipsing around on these roads.
