  Norwegian Buhund
Norwegian grave-find from the viking-age shows, that spitz dogs of Buhund type were common on the farms in Norway.
For centuries the Buhund was used as a watchdog on farms in Norway and as herding dog for the livestock and when breeding sheep became common, due to the changes in the climate in the 1400-years, especially in Western Norway, the farmers needed a sheep-dog.
Even though the Norwegian Buhund is one of the earliest known Nordic herding dogs, it was, as it often happens, looked down at, as a "farmers dog", which couldn't be taken serious and was therefore not officially recognized by the Scandinavian kennel clubs until 1943.
