Norwegian Law of Succession - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Norwegian Law of Succession was introduced in 1163.
The law was an accord between Erling Skakke and Archbishop Øystein, where Erling's son Magnus Erlingsson inherited the throne, in exchange for greater power to the church.
Magnus had to promise to obey the pope, while church law was recognised on equal level with secular laws.

The law as applied in the islands was contained in a 'law-book' —a term used by northern writers to describe any written code of laws—and the law-book, which apparently contained not merely laws but decisions, is referred to in several decrees of the local courts and 'lawmen'.
But we may fairly assume that the criminal, like the civil, law would be based on Norwegian sources, and the last recorded mention of the law-book is a reference to the inspection of its chapters in a case of murder or manslaughter.
In the absence of the law-book Udal Law as it affected Orkney and Shetland must be gathered from (a) its Norwegian origins, (b) later Scottish writers, and (c) the records of deeds and decrees.

The Anglo-American doctrine of consideration is unknown in Norwegian law.
This is due to the fact that CISG is transformed into Norwegian law and is applicable whether the case is judged by a Norwegian or a foreign court.

On this view, tort liability is governed by the law of the place where the tort occurred and the validity of a contract is governed by the law of the place where the contract was made.
Customary international law limits on a nation's regulation of extraterritorial events are less clear because there are few international decisions on point, and because state practice does not reveal a settled custom.
Similarly, had an English court applied English law to adjudge the reinsurers' acts to be legal, it would have produced spillover effects on consumers in the United States, and would have come at the expense of the nonapplication of U.S. law.

The Genocide against the Armenians 1915-1923 and the application of the 1948 Genocide Convention
Moreover, in the view of leading publicists in public international law, the Genocide Convention of 1948 was not constitutive of a new offence in international law termed “genocide”, but was declaratory of the pre-existing crime (26) ; in other words, the Convention merely codified the prohibition of genocide, which was already binding international law.
Therefore, so far from international law negating or limiting the jurisdiction of countries with respect to such crimes, international law is, in the absence of an International Court, in need of the judicial and legislative organs of every country to give effect to its criminal interdictions and to bring the criminals to trial.
