  Black metal music
Black metal generally consists of heavily distorted, extremely fast guitar playing, screamed vocals, and fast drumming.
Black metal congealed in its current form through the influence of Norwegian bands such as Darkthrone, Burzum, Mayhem, Immortal and Emperor, who began with the earlier style and introduced elements from mainstream heavy metal, classical music and hardcore punk and popularized the style to a growing underground audience.
Black metal enthusiasts also started to terrorize other notable "death metal" bands that were touring their country or in neighboring countries, on the basis of their lack of apparent "evilness".

Black metal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The seeds of fl metal were planted in the early 1980s, known as the "First Wave", the earliest inspiration being that of the British band Venom.
Although Venom cannot be credited as a true fl metal band or the sole founders of the genre, they were a major influence and one of the first bands to use Satanic and dark lyrical themes in their music.
Black metal is generally held to embrace anti-christian sentiment, misanthropy, nihilism, Paganism, Satanic imagery, as well as in some cases racism and nationalism.

The starting point for symphonic fl metal was the early-'90s sound of Norwegian fl metal, specifically the wing of bands that employed sorrowful, melodic keyboard lines as a counterpoint to their furious assaults.
Black metal groups looking to push past the inherent limitations of the form began de-emphasizing the guitar and adding elements of progressive rock (primarily psychedelic space-rock bands like Pink Floyd) and goth metal, with its emphasis on chilling, eerie texture.
The symphonic fl metal movement remains somewhat limited, partly because of its epic ambitions and partly because it isn't traditionally metallic, but its fascinating synthesis of influences made it an instantly identifiable alternative in underground metal at the turn of the millennium.

Another example of the confluence of Skins and fl metal is found in the racist Polish band Graveland, whose first album is "Heeding the Call of the Blood." Graveland is composed of a typical fl metal enthusiast, corpse paint and all, and a Skinhead.

Black metal finally went from an idea to an institution in June of 1992 when the Fantoft stave church in Norway was burnt to the ground, allegedly by Varg Vikernes of the one-man band Burzum.
Though fl metal does fairly well in Europe, it failed to touch the mainstream in the U.S. This contributed greatly to its being a form of rebellion, for what is obscure and unknown is usually feared.
Black metal is certainly not for everyone, evidenced by its position in the underground instead of the mainstream.

Norwegian Black Metal is a term that is likely known to many metal fans.
It is important to emphasize Norwegian because while Venom coined the phrase "Black Metal" with its 1982 release, the sound is considerably different to the brand of music that is considered Black Metal by today's standards.
While the fans call them Black Metal, the band does not associate with the term for the most part because they do not feel their music needs to be labeled as anything other than Metal.

When attention first focused on Norway's almost cartoonishly violent fl metal scene in the mid-'90s, Mayhem were dubbed its godfathers, but most of the critical accolades were bestowed upon Emperor, whose musical innovations have had more impact on the genre than any other band.

The epithet, "True Norwegian Black Metal," may not apply to Immortal in its current incarnation, but the fact remains that the classification never truly fit the Bergen-based outfit anyway.
Where Damned in Black's mid-paced heavy metal-influenced fl metal was catchy but lacked a definite edge, Sons of the Northern Darkness, penned after the title of Immortal and Marduk's infamous two-part jaunt across Europe in 1994-95, displays a more vitriolic Immortal, one that isn't afraid to show its fangs and unpleasant demeanor.
Moreover, when fl metal is performed with this level of conviction and talent, it's not difficult to hear why Immortal have basically marched forward into their own musical space.

Most of us in the present time cannot imagine this band not being terrible overblown gothic heavy metal, but they were once great, and this compilation of 7" tracks and the undernoticed EP "Trolltaar" from 1995 is convincing in establishing the strength and vitality of this second-wave Norwegian act.

The band was originally formed in 1986 as a death metal outfit by Ivar Enger (guitar), Dag Nilsen (bass) and Gylve Nagell (drums), under the name Black Death.
Skjellum and Enger then famously decided that death metal had become "too fashionable" and engineered a complete change of style and image to become a fully Satanic fl metal band, complete with corpse-paint, warp-speed riffing, high-pitched cackling vocals and the expected sinister keyboards.
The sleeve notes also contained the dedication "This album is for the Norwegian Black Metal Mafia", which aroused a little controversy owing to the church-burning activities of a semi-mythical group of Oslo vandals called the Inner Circle at the time.
