Noshiro City is situated in a coastal area in the northern part of Akita Prefecture.
Noshiro thrived as a foothold of trade between ports along the coast of the Sea of Japan.

It was a type of cargo ship that transported a wide variety of goods, such as gold, silver, bronze, lumber and rice, between Hokkaido and Kyoto from the middle of the Edo period(1603-1868)to the beginning of the Meiji period(1868-1912)

Hired as a sake taster by the Finance Ministry in 1902, Noshiro advanced to the head of the department within a few years.
One was the installation of an elaborately controlled window on the ceiling of the koji-muro, the special room where koji is made, that allowed for very precise temperature control.
For his contributions, Noshiro became known as "Sake no Kami-sama," or "the God of Sake." A bronze bust of this great contributor sits near the entrance to the brewery.
