The album reflected the legal problems which beset Springsteen in the mid-70s and in contrast to Born To Run was a moody, claustrophobic album, yet over 25 years later it still stands as a great work.
As is often the case, the album that is the most commercially accessible, bestselling and longest resident in the charts, is not always the artist's best work.
The album was warm and mellow, in direct contrast to the stark and hollow power of its nearest relative in the singer's catalogue, Nebraska.

Dark brooding masterpiece : Listening to this superb album, it is easy to conjure up the image of a road weary Springsteen, working out these songs on acoustic guitar in some middle America hotel room, hair wild and messy, sharing a bottle with the ghosts of Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams.
As far as this relates to his other albums, it is perhaps more colourful and varied and obviously longer than the ones that run it close, Born To Run, Darkness On The Edge Of Town...

The expanded lineup set to recording their second album, Hotheads, in the summer of 1986, but by the time the album was released in early 1987, both Griffin and Dauphin had left the band.
The album was released in April 1989, and proceeded to win another Minnesota Music Award, this time for Album/CD of the Year.
The album reintroduced hard rock elements with a vengeance, with a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper" getting a gruff treatment that would warm the cockles of Neil Young's heart.

It was abandoned due to a number of factors, with the main reason being the resistance of the rest of the Who, a problem that led Townshend to an emotional breakdown.
Now that Lifehouse has come to life in the form of two albums-the Lifehouse Chronicles boxed set and the truncated Lifehouse Elements—Townshend's work now is back with the Who, the object of a publicly played out love/hate relationship and more splits and make-ups than a season of the The Honeymooners.

Time Fades Away is the first installment of the trio of albums known as the "Ditch Trilogy" along with his two other early 1970's materpieces Tonight's The Night and On The Beach.
The album, like the film, has a very raw feel to it, as though Neil were deliberately trying to shake off the perfectionism of his past efforts.
The album, like the film, is more expressive than it is articulate, but the real stylistic departure is one of mood--the vocals are wild, agonized, deliberately jarring.

With my interest in the group primarily being in their 1960s material, I decided I would write an album by album, song by song examination of all their releases of the decade.
The album wound up peaking on the Billboard album charts at Number Eleven, hardly a poor showing for a debut album with no smash hit single preceding it, and by a band not too many Americans had heard about or from.
The album's second track was actually the kick-off track on the English album, and it's easy to hear why.

The Morning News - The Non-Expert: Not Fade Away, by Kevin Guilfoile
My own record collection is far from complete, but, true enough, the earliest instance of a fade I can find is on ‘Lean Baby,’ a terrible Sinatra tune about dating skinny women recorded in 1953, some 13 years before his marriage to an emaciated Mia Farrow.
It’s a now familiar technique, with Frank’s ‘do, do, dos’ sounding farther and farther away before diminishing into nothing, but, as Pat suggested, it was also an anomaly for records of the period.
The fade became part of our musical vocabulary and not a single person gave it another thought until you brought it up just now.
