Halosaur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As the family Halosauridae, halosaurs are one of two families within the order Notacanthiformes; the other being the deep-sea spiny eels.
Like other notacanthiform fish, halosaurs are able to regenerate their tails easily if lost.
This adaptation can be likened to certain terrestrial reptiles such as the glass lizard, which sacrifices its tail in order to evade predators.

These orders (Torpediniformes, Pristiformes, Rajiformes, and Myliobatiformes) are placed after the Hexanchiformes, Squaliformes, and Squatiniformes because the three orders of sharks plus the Pristiophoriformes and the four orders of rays are considered to constitute a monophyletic group (Shirai 1992).
Halosauridae and Notacanthidae are placed in their own order (Notacanthiformes) rather than in the order Albuliformes with Albulidae.
The two orders are thought to form a monophyletic group, but they are treated separately because of their distinctive body forms.
