But if you position 2 or more notes that occupy different positions vertically on the stave, but are part of a chord.
I'll further echo the request to be able to beam notes of a chord in opposite stem directions.
The rule would be that if some notes were already beamed, and other notes with stems in the opposite direction were beamed, then only those notes get beamed in the opposite direction.

A structurally complete leaf of an angiosperm consists typically of a petiole (leaf stem), a lamina (leaf blade), and stipules (small processes located to either side of the base of the petiole).
Note: opposite leaves may appear whorled near the tip of the stem.
In clasping leaves, the blade partially or wholly surrounds the stem, giving the impression that the shoot grows through the leaf such as in Claytonia perfoliata of the purslane family (Portulacaceae).

As it is now, the stem length for such extreme notes is affected by the Normal Stem Length setting on the Music Options dialog box and the vertical position of the rests that are in the group.

With Musician, the direction of stems attached to notes is determined by the voice of the notes.
If the part is played or sung by two or more individuals, but they all play the same notes, and only one note at a time, then that part is also said to have a single voice.
If an upper and lower voice note share the same pitch and attack location, then Musician will automatically share the same notehead for the two voices, provided that there would be no ambiguity in the interpretation of the duration of either the upper or lower voice note.

When multiple eighth notes or sixteenth notes (or thirty-second notes, etc.) are next to each other, the stems may be connected with a beam rather than a flag, like the notes in Figure 2.

In music, a whole note or semibreve is a note notated with a hollow oval note head, like a half note, and no note stem (see Figure 1).
Its length is equal to four beats in 4/4 time or is sometimes used to last the entire duration of a measure even if, in the time signature, a measure is not the length of a whole note long.
Most other notes divide the whole note; half notes are played for one half the duration of the whole note, quarter notes are each played for one quarter the duration, etc. The note twice the length of the whole note is the double whole note (or breve).
