Nothing Personal [1996]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
"Nothing Personal" is a film about the darkest days of the Northern Ireland Troubles in the mid 1970's, which even today it is almost taboo to discuss.
Of all the many post ceasefire films made about the Troubles, "Nothing Personal" is one of the best, but also one of the most harrowing to watch.
Hard though it may be for many people in New Britain/New Ireland to believe today, "Nothing Personal" accurately shows what life was like in part of the UK not so long ago.

 CNN - It's nothing personal - December 22, 1998
The companies not in the personalization game are missing a lost opportunity to target-market products to customers and generate repeat business.
Yet privacy concerns may be one of the thorniest parts of personalization, given that people's perceptions about privacy are as important as what your formal policy says.
Finally, elevating the personalization process to the enterprise level is important — the sales force and customer service reps should use the same one-on-one tactics used on the corporate Web site.

Reason: Nothing Personal: Is the NSA’s phone call database legal because the president says so?
But as USA Today pointed out when it revealed the existence of this program, phone numbers can readily be linked to names and addresses using publicly available information.
The claim that there's really nothing personal or private about the phone call records--which tell the NSA who calls whom, when, and for how long--is therefore a tenuous basis for defending the legality of data collection that ordinarily requires a court order or the customer's consent.
Tenuous legal arguments are what we've come to expect from the Bush administration when it defends controversial measures aimed at fighting terrorism, including coercive interrogation techniques, improvised military tribunals, and the indefinite detention of unilaterally identified "enemy combatants." The arguments are weak partly because President Bush doesn't really think he needs them.

I like the attorney general very much and am certain that he is capable on many matters, but professional experience tells me that careful thinking on the nominations issue is not one of them.
The contention of principled conservatives is that questions about personal views should not be asked, that they have no role in the Senate confirmation process, and that they belittle the Supreme Court's majesty, which we attempt so tenderly to guard with the artifice of fl robes and a high bench.
Moreover, questions over personal views about abortion may be a religious test prohibited under Article VI of the Constitution.

The recent barrage of criticism of the Supreme Court by the media and politicians has not been confined to a polite discussion of the merits of the court’s decisions, but has degenerated into personal attacks on the judges.
Ridiculing someone’s intelligence or motives would be a personal attack and could validly be described as a degeneration of the debate.
Justice L’Heureux-Dubé’s speech listed the three criteria necessary to guarantee the independence of the judiciary: "the financial security of the judges, the security of tenure of judges, and the administrative independence of the judiciary." Nothing that any journalist or politician might say about the court has even the slightest impact on any of these factors.

Ironically, there is a conjunction "between those who have nothing to say" and the masses who do not speak.
Sadly, there is an "ominous emptiness of all discourse", a condition that is submerged under the weight of the ongoing Kanadian identity crisis and its own "nostalgia for a sublime transcendent" (the genius in search of his own 'self' in a by-gone landscape).
The formula has always worked and been the same: filmmaker discusses his/her work as biographic preliminaries leading to name-dropping of current personalities, self-inclusive theoretical paradigms and nationalist symbology (the flag, landscape and mediation theories, self-image, etc.) "Raising the standard of experimental film?" Considering his perennial cult status, Delbert McClinton is to be commended for avoiding the crossover-bid celebrity-duets approach taking by so many other baby-boomer blues artists.
On NOTHING PERSONAL, as with the rest of his output, McClinton is more concerned with recording gritty, hard-hitting blues than with becoming a star.

Like many other senior bluesmen, Delbert McClinton is getting back to basics: Nothing Personal, his first album for New West, is the raw, stripped-down sort of material that sounds best when you know it comes from experience.
The more emotional, personal numbers--the album's title notwithstanding, this is a highly personal album--are balanced with high-energy material, though even these songs, such as "Livin' It Down," have a serious thing or two to say.
Nothing Personal is full of little touches and techniques like this, moving out of the realm of merely good, and into the ranks of art.

The poet was very young, a guy in jeans with longish hair and, in my opinion, nothing special as a writer.
Perhaps this separation of poem and poet was at least in part what O'Hara refers to when he says in "Personism": "It [his poetics] does not have anything to do with personality or intimacy--far from it!"
It's also interesting that in borrowing from the Futurists what is essentially a mannerism designed for a public voice, O'Hara applies it to the personal and the private with startling results.
