 Redhotcurry - News. First Asian Woman Magistrate
Her appointment ceremony, held on Monday 5th April 2004 at Birmingham Council House, was attended by newly appointed magistrates, Bench and Advisory Committee members and local dignitaries, including the Lady Mayoress.
The 2004 Magistrates Shadowing Scheme areas are Birmingham, London, Merseyside, Leicester, Nottingham, Oxford, Watford/West Hertfordshire, Derby and South Derbyshire, Bradford, Walsall, Vale of Glamorgan and Burnley.
Revinder Johal has become the first Asian woman to be appointed as a magistrate after taking part in the pilot Operation Black Vote and Department for Constitutional Affairs Magistrates Shadowing Scheme.

 The Living Church Foundation
The decision by the national Executive Council to withdraw the Episcopal Church’s members from the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) as it meets next month in Nottingham, England [TLC, May 1] is somewhat surprising.
Like the response of the House of Bishops [TLC, April 3] to the Windsor Report, the council seems to be saying it will honor the primates’ request, but only on its own terms.

The Council House stands in Old Market Square, this is the centre of Nottingham.
There is also a local saying, that when a young innocent girl walks past the Council House, you will hear the lions roar.
This public house was built in 1240 AD, but is by no means the oldest Inn in Nottingham.

On their previous visit to Nottingham King George and Queen Mary had been received by the City Council in the Market Place but by the time of this second visit the Exchange Building had been demolished and the new Council House was in the course of erection.
The Warreners had come to Nottingham from Middlesborough in 1939 and No.1 Tanners Yard was to remain their home until the beginning of the 1960s when the block of housing and other neighbouring properties were all demolished in a mini-clearance scheme.

The Council of General Synod (CoGS) averted division in the house when movers of a resolution endorsing the Lambeth Commission’s call for a moratorium on public rites of blessing of same-sex unions opted to withdraw it after much opposition.
The primate said the responses will become part of the message he takes to Northern Ireland, when all the primates of the Anglican Communion meet there next month and again to the Anglican Consultative Council that will meet in Nottingham, England, in June 2005.
“It’s inappropriate for this council to pick out a part of that report and emphasize that.” He questioned why the motion did not similarly endorse a recommendation made by the report that primates desist from offering alternative episcopal oversight to parishes outside their jurisdiction.

One end of the Square is dominated by the Council House (Nottingham's City Hall); either side of the Council House is a pair of stone lions, which are famed by Nottingham residents as a focal point and meeting place.
It was on the Market Square that Robin Hood took advantage of an amnesty and won the coveted silver arrow in a contest devised by the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The central market square should be a large flush light coloured surface of slip resistant granite that matches the Portland stone used in the Council House.
Immediately to the south of this route, in the sun a series of broad elevated seating steps define the northern edge of the square, enabling an adjustment in its levels that create the flat plane on which the Council House sits and from which the market can operate.

 Nottinghamshire Council inaction over Forest Lodge
In April 2002 the occupiers of the Forest Recreation Ground Lodge were taken to court and evicted by Nottingham City Council.
Another lodge on the edge of the Forest Recreation Ground, currently unoccupied but refurbished by the Trust and owned by Nottingham City Council.
The Keeper of the Forest lived in the race stand until a special house was built for him some time in the latter part of the C19.

In 1616 the tapestries were sold by Howard to King James I, and for the next two centuries they hung in the House of Lords; they were lost in the Westminster Palace fire of 1834.

Brownlow House, which replaced an earlier structure, was occupied by the Brownlow family up to about 50 years ago when it was acquired by the Imperial Grand Black Chapter of the British Commonwealth as a Headquarters.
It was in the early years of the 17th century that John Brownlow of Nottingham volunteered to become an undertaker in Ulster and he and William Brownlow were granted 1,500 and 1,000 acres respectively in the Barony of O'Neilland.
Lord Lurgan presented the Borough Council with a very fine piece of jewellery in the Mayoral Chain and gave permission for the Mayors of Craigavon to wear this chain for official duties.

 Rugby Football Union - RFU Chief Executive joins the Sweet Chariot Tour
Events on March 6 include a reception with the Sheriff of Nottingham at the Council House in the city and appearances by Tom Ryder, the England Under-19 rugby captain, and Esham Pickering, the Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight boxing champion at Newark RFC.
