Nottingham is famous for its involvement in lace-making, its association with the legendary outlaw Robin Hood, and the supposedly exceptional beauty of its young women.
Nottingham is the fastest growing city in England, and second fastest growing in the whole of the UK, behind only Glasgow, despite being named named the 'second worst place to live' in the UK by a Channel 4 show.
Founded as a Saxon settlement, Nottingham was later captured by the Danes (Vikings) and in the 9th century became one of the five boroughs (fortified towns) of the Danelaw.

More than half of the ship’s company of damaged destroyer HMS Nottingham are being flown to the mainland of Australia as work on repairing the warship continues.
Nottingham is expected to be towed to an Australian port towards the end of this month.
Additional steelwork is still being welded into the ship to strengthen the areas worst affected by the grounding, which caused a series of holes along some 100ft of the hull and led to flooding in at least five compartments.

Photographer, artist (born in November, 1902, at Nottingham Island, N.W.T.; died on September 30, 1973, at Cape Dorset, N.W.T. Pitseolak was a camp leader who realized that the traditional INUIT way of life was fast disappearing.
He wanted his grandchildren to know "what went on while I was alive." He began writing notes, collecting stories and songs, and making drawings and painting before the last of the Inuit left the camps to live in settlements near the towns.
They are the only known collection of photographs of traditional Inuit life on Baffin Island.
