Nottinghamshire needed 269 to avoid suffering the highest defeat of the Championship season, and amid the rain breaks at the Rose Bowl, they passed that score with one wicket in hand, thanks to 97 from Darren Bicknell and a 49-ball cameo from Chris Read which yielded 63 runs.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is one of the 18 major county clubs which make up the English domestic cricket structure, representing the historic county of Nottinghamshire.
Curiously, the earliest known reference to cricket in the county is the Nottingham v Sheffield match on the Forest Racecourse at Nottingham on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 August 1771.
Nottinghamshire enjoyed one of their strongest teams in the late seventies and early eighties when the ultra professional New Zealand all-rounder Sir Richard Hadlee, South African strongman Clive Rice and boyish England batting star Derek Randall led their team to the county championship.

Walter began playing cricket at junior county level with Notts Colts at the age of 18 or 19, but made his professional debut in 1878 with Mote Park Cricket Club in Maidstone, Kent.
He was soon, however, to return to his native county and in 1879 was recruited by Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club after putting in an outstanding performance in the Colts trial, taking the first five Notts batsmen for only 11 runs.
The most famous cricketer of the age, W.G. Grace, was reputed to have described Walter was the originator of swing bowling.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have reached agreement for the staging of One-Day Internationals and Test Matches at Trent Bridge from 2003 to 2011.
This long term Staging Agreement provides the security of regular international cricket at Trent Bridge which is required to fund the existing and possible new developments at the ground.
Following the announcement Nottinghamshire CCC will be selling tickets to its members from 23 September, and to the general public from 7 October for next year's international matches at Trent Bridge.
