Burrell was knocked unconscious and suffered head injuries when Ward Burton's out-of-control Dodge struck he and his teammates as they made a tire change during the Pennzoil Freedom 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Burrell was moved to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 16 from a hospital in Miami where he was airlifted immediately after the accident.

On Nov. 7, the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco struck down what had been the biggest punitive damages award in history, a $5 billion judgment against Exxon for sloshing 11 million gallons of oil from the Exxon Valdez into Prince William Sound.
Also on Nov. 7, the state Court of Appeal in San Francisco upheld another hefty punitive-damages award, $25 million against Philip Morris for essentially lying to Patricia Henley about the hazards of smoking approximately two packs of Marlboro cigarettes every day for 35 years.
The award augmented $1.5 million in compensation for Henley's lung cancer and was meant to punish Philip Morris for years of apparently deceptive behavior.
