 Level Up, Yes or No?
I believe that any high school student taking Nova lessons for three years would end up with better English skills than a student who went through the public school's English curriculum, even when aided by a JET teacher.
Except for this strict enforcement of rules, Nova's working conditions always seemed fine to me. I taught at half a dozen different schools during my time at the company, and the classrooms were invariably clean and comfortable, with air conditioning cranking in the summer and plenty of toasty heat in the winter.
Remember that virtually all Nova teachers are foreigners, with family, friends, and other roots pulling them away from Japan.

The interview itself was subtlely off-putting, and the corporate nature of NOVA began to become apparent as the interviewer rapid fired through the lightning round and refused to move on until she had something to fill the space on her sheet for the semi-unanswerable questions.
NOVA seems to be one of the very few eikaiwa that allow foreigners to work part-time but this is only available for a few countries with the appropriate visa (mainly Australia and New Zealand).
NOVA in particular is said to be under recruitment quotas so I’m told the interviews are more or less just to check that you don’t dribble when you talk or have Tourette’s Syndrome.

Japan's largest "eikaiwa" chain, Nova, is already being probed by the Social Insurance Agency and could see itself slapped with a multibillion-yen bill for missed payments.
NOVA, AEON, GEOS, ECC, the JET program, Language House, James English School and Westgate Corporation recruit teachers overseas.
For eikaiwa teachers, however, that figure rises to between 96 and 97 percent, making it possible for most to get an almost full refund of their pension premiums.
