She couldn't convince the gorilla to give her Brent and Nova, but she could trick one gorilla into giving her the key and the other into believing the door can be locked twice?
Beneath the Planet of the Apes offers none of the interesting elements of its predecessor, which is surprising because it works so hard at plundering it for the good parts.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes carries over the nuclear holocaust theme that punctuated the first film, but really shoves it further in your face.

 Cashiers du Cinemart Issue 10
Ulysse's acceptance into ape society along with Nova's pregnancy (and the danger her loquacious baby represents) would later be cleverly used in the third apes film, ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES but with chimpanzees, Cornelius and Zira in the limelight and peril.
Apparently, apes were trained as servants (as found in CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) and, eventually, became dissatisfied with their role in society; wanting something better.
It's true that Boulle's apes are far more advanced than those of the film's; driving cars and flying airplanes instead of riding horseback and walking unpaved streets as if to show them more as a society on the verge of industrialization.

Once stranded astronaut Taylor (Charlton Heston) has realised where he really is, he heads away from the city of Apes towards the Forbidden Zone with primitive girl Nova (Linda Harrison).
Bearing in mind that sequels can simply be uninspired retreads of former glories, Beneath the Planet of the Apes is notable for bringing in new ideas, and building on the first film by taking its dire warning of the future to its most extreme conclusion.
Written by Paul Dehn, from a story by him and Mort Abrahams, the answer lies in the first sequel to the blockbuster hit Planet of the Apes.

Scifilm -- Reviews, BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES (1970)
This movie starts off where PLANET OF THE APES ended with Taylor and Nova on horseback investigating the mysterious Forbidden Zone.
Of course this film comes in a boxed set with the other four films and the excellent documentary film "Behind the Planet of the Apes" (which I mentioned in my PLANET OF THE APES review), where one can learn in what other film the sets for the mutant headquarters first appeared.
They overhear the speech campaign of one General Ursus (James Gregory), who wants the Apes to invade the Forbidden Zone, conquer it, and use it as a potential food source, as they are now apparently facing famine in their own territories.

Thade uses one of them and goes to earth(presumably to escape his planet where he is now a criminal) and ultimately leads a simian rebellion(much like that on 'apes' movie..the one with the chimp named Ceaser and had Ricardo Montalban in it).
One 'explanation' of the ending is that the apes examine and learn from the wreckage of the ship(which still had sections in working order)..in Thade's lifetime, they learn how to use the technology and use one of the 'pods'.
There is enough left that an interesting sequel can be made..

Those Damned Dirty Apes! By Anthony Leong from MediaCircus.net
Nova, Zira, Cornelius, and Dr. Zaius are back, and the story revolved around Brent journeying into the ruins of New York City, where he finds a cult of atom bomb-worshipping mutants who have captured Taylor-- they pray to 'the Almighty Bomb and the Holy Fallout', and religiously advocate the concept of mutually-assured destruction (MAD).
Despite attempts by Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans), the head of the Ape Assembly, to protect the status quo by having him destroyed, Taylor escapes, and rides off into the sunset with Nova.
It is here that the "Planet of the Apes" makes its earth-shattering and sobering revelation-- Taylor finds the upper half of the Statue of Liberty on a deserted beach, proof that he had returned to Earth and the 'upside-down' world he found was a result of man's own folly.

Estella has been in several films: Driven in which she plays Sophia Simone, Planet of the Apes (does anyone think this is as good as the original?) in which she plays Nova, Tangled and Perfume.
As Estella now lives in New York, she says she misses the open space of Canada but that New York has such a fun, fast, invigorating pace.
Estella was then chosen as the model for the Chanel #5 campaign, and then the Perry Ellis campaign.

Kim Hunter brought something special to the character of Zira in Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes and Escape from the Planet of the Apes.

Planet of the Apes (2001): Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans - PopMatters Film Review
Zira's trying to prove a theory of evolution through her studies on humans, while her superior, Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans), resident senex and orangutan aristocrat, disparages her theories as threats to the pervasive religious doctrine (humans are the pestilence that apes-- created in "God's image" -- are charged to destroy).
The irony is that the apes' civilization is equally restrictive, narrow-minded, and violent as that of the humans, a perverse shadow of everything Taylor hated about the earth he left behind.
While one might think Heston's overblown acting would be a detriment to the seriousness of the film, it strangely feels appropriate to the outlandishness of the situation in which Taylor finds himself.
