After decades in the wilderness the Nova Scotia NDP was revitalized by a competition between its Cape Breton Island and Halifax bases in the late 1960's.
While she was the only NDP member of the legislature elected in 1981, and had at most a caucus of three Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), she raised the party's profile and become a well known advocate for the poor and disadvantaged.
The youth wing of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party is the Nova Scotia Young New Democrats.

Nova Scotia NDP leader Robert Chisholm began the election campaign by denouncing the provincial Liberals for proposing to borrow $600 million over the next three years so as to reinvest in public health care.

It was interesting to note that not one NDP candidate returned the questionnaire, all had to be funneled to the provincial headquarters for response and we are still waiting.
Please note that on June 8th, 1999 in the House of Commons, the Nova Scotia NDP members voted against the motion supporting the traditional definition of marriage brought forth by Eric Lowther, MP.
NDP: It is probably safe to assume that because the NDP authored the original injunction, they would continue to support it.
