Casper the Friendly Ghost - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Intended initially as the basis for a children's storybook, there was initially little interest in their idea and when Reit was away on military service during the Second World War, Oriolo sold the rights to the character to Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios animation division, for which he had occasionally worked.
The Friendly Ghost, the first Noveltoon to feature Casper, was released by Paramount in 1945.
Nearly every entry in the series was the same: Casper leaves the life of a regular ghost, tries to find friends but scares nearly everyone, and finally finds a (cute little) friend, whom he saves from some sort of fate.

There are also four Noveltoons, two that are terrific, but a warning must be given to those who get offended by the politically incorrect, because these episodes do not conform to today's standards.
Features Raggedy Ann (the 1st of only 2 Noveltoons featuring her), and it is beautifully drawn and very expressive, as Raggedy Ann travels through the sky and talks to the elements.
Cloud is not politically correct, but wonderful, and this Noveltoon has a very real emotional quality to it.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Herman and Katnip
It was part of the "Noveltoon" series, where such stars as Casper the Friendly Ghost and Little Audrey also started.
The director was Seymour Kneitel, who spent most of his career doing Popeye, Screen Songs, Little Lulu and other series for Fleischer/Famous.
Herman the Mouse had already appeared in a few Noveltoons, as early as 1944, a couple of which teamed him with a rooster named Henry (who went nowhere).

Every SUPPRESSED ethnic caricature to be sometimes presented here is just for HISTORICAL and EDUCATIONAL purpose and NOT to offend anyone.
This time I want to show you one of the first directorial works of Tytla, the Famous Noveltoon "Sudden Fried Chicken", starring the short-lived duo of Herman the mouse (to be later paired with a certain dumb cat) and Henry, the hen-pecked rooster.
From their look, it appears as if Tytla was still giving his head animators a little leeway in determining the "look" of the characters, even after his clash with Jim Tyer on Vlad's first two Popeye shorts.
