The district was created in 1904 by the merger of Talagang tehsil from the Jhelum District and the Pindigheb, Fatehjang and Attock tehsils from Rawalpindi District of British Raj.
Attock District is bordered by the Haripur and Swabi districts of North-West Frontier Province to the north, the district of Rawalpindi to the east, the district of Chakwal ot the southeast, the district of Mianwali to the southwest, and North-West Frontier Province districts of Kohat and Nowshera to the west and northwest.
The district possesses mainly hills, plateaus and dissected plains with the river Indus on the northern and western borders of the district.

NOWSHERA — The Watan Dost group of Awami National Party and Awam Dost group of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian have secured maximum seats of nazimeen and councillors in Nowshera District during August 18 elections and are in the position to form government in the district.
District president of the Awami National Party, Haji Dilaram Khan, while talking to The Nation on Sunday said that the party had fielded 46 panels of nazim and naib nazim out of 48 union councils in the district, wherein 17 stood victorious alongwith dozens of councillors.
District president of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian, Nowshera, Liaqat Shahbab, while talking to this scribe on phone said that the Awam Dost group secured 18 nazimeen seats in the district, while the number of councillors are yet to be disclosed as party was collecting information from various parts of the district.

NOWSHERA, Oct 6: Women representatives of the Nowshera district council have decided to tender resignations from the elected body as they are being discriminated in identifying development projects and allocating funds in the new local government system.
This was stated by the presiding officer of Nowshera district council and chairperson of the education committee Sultana Rauf Khattak while talking to the vice chairman of the Nowshera press club here on Friday.
She asked the federal and provincial governments to make necessary changes in the rules of business of the district government plan, so that the women could participate in solving the problems of their areas.

 Floods claim two lives in Nowshera -DAWN - Top Stories; July 2, 2005
PESHAWAR, July 1: With the River Kabul continuing to rise to dangerous levels on Friday, flood waters inundated the suburbs of Nowshera city and engulfed 200 houses of a village in the neighbouring Mardan district.
According to the NWFP Flood Warning Centre, the water discharge in River Kabul at Nowshera was recorded at 169,600 cusecs at 7pm and the level of all the tributaries was also increasing.
Nowshera is one of the worst-affected areas where the flash floods have affected 11 villages, damaging 2,877 houses and inundating 52,100 acres of land.

However, all of them advised her to reach a settlement with the 'Gonga gang' to save her life as they were dangerous people.

On the other hand residents of Charsadda district were facing great difficulties due to the blockade of Peshawar-Charsadda road for the last two days and they have been paying high fares to reach Peshawar via Nowshera and Mardan.
The people of Charsadda and Nowshera have demanded of the provincial government to declare these areas as calamity-hit and announce relief package to the affected people.
