Museveni was born in Ntungamo in south-west Uganda, shown here in red.
Born in Ntungamo in western Uganda, Museveni is a member of the Nyankole ethnic group.
In 1989, the 10 provinces were reorganized into 33 districts, one of which was Mbarara, and in 1994 the district of Ntungamo was formed from parts of Mbarara and Bushenyi.

The head of the National Banana Research Programme at Kawanda Research Centre, Mr Joseph Sabiiti, said the disease was discovered in 2001 in Mukono district and had since spread to more than 21 districts in.
"It has now spread to Bushenyi and Ntungamo in western Uganda districts," Sabiiti said at the district stakeholders' workshop on banana bacterial wilt identification and management, last Wednesday.
It attacks banana plants and once they are affected, they cannot be eaten by people or animals.

Keith Henderson, the executive director of Uganda Flower Exporters Association (UFEA), said on Monday that the farm owned by Pearl Flowers, a member of UFEA, had been established on a 20- hectare piece of land and was expected to employ 600 people.
He said the flowers would be exported to European markets through Kigali airport to avoid delays, which usually affect quality.
