Due to logistical problems, the Bul Nuer representatives came on foot, as the conference was adjourning, bringing with them a Dinka prisoner to free as a sign of good faith.

Even in childhood it is clear to Nuer that marriage and the birth of children are the ultimate purpose of the sexual functions to which all earlier activities of a sexual kind-play, love-making, and courtship-are a prelude, a preparation, and a means.
The Nuer girl’s thoughts, “even when a child, are upon her future husband, who he may be, what he may pay as the marriage price”.

The West Bank peace conference was the culmination of a nine-day peace conference that was held last June between key border chiefs and church leaders of the Dinka and Nuer from both sides of the Nile River in Southern Sudan.
There were doubts from some members of the Nuer community who ultimately skipped the conference fearing a backlash from the Dinka who are the predominant population at Bahr el-Ghazal.
Another woman from Nuer side, Deborah Nyadian, a mother of three children, said men were incapable of imagining the pain of delivering a child because of the biological make-up.

 The Nuer (E.E. Evans-Pritchard) - book review
The Nuer is one of the best known of all ethnographic studies, and the reason for this is clear: Evans-Pritchard gives a brilliant and insightful picture of an interesting and unusual people.
The Nuer were a pastoral people living along the upper Nile, who had no laws or leaders and were strongly individualistic, with social order maintained by community values and a segmentary tribal and lineage system.
Most people are likely to encounter this in introductory anthropology courses, but I think everyone should read at least one ethnography, even if they never study anthropology: The Nuer wouldn't be a bad choice.
