 A cross-border move to end drug war
Mexican police and military units dispatched to the Nuevo Laredo area immediately after the killings have restored order to most areas, officials said Friday, but killings and kidnappings have continued as Mexican authorities have cracked down on suspected traffickers and drug lords.
This week, Mexican and U.S. officials were searching a ranch in Nuevo Laredo where kidnappers are said to have killed and buried some of their victims.
Perry ordered an additional 100 state troopers to the Laredo area in response to the increased violence and approved $5 million to improve communications gear and coordination between law enforcement areas along the border, including $1.2 million for the Laredo area.
