A calculated effort - The Boston Globe
Bridger suggested creating a blog explaining the math explored in ''Numb3rs" as a way to generate interest in the math department, which had seen a precipitous dip in majors from 2003 to 2004.
That was also what Bridger told Andrew Black, a head researcher at ''Numb3rs," when Bridger received an early version of the script as part of his job as a consultant for the show, which he started in the spring.
But most observers believe that ''Numb3rs," which ran only 13 episodes its first season (compared with a full season of 22), is far too young to have that kind of effect on viewers.
