The Stereophonics track was number one in the main singles chart last month but only made it to number seven in the quarterly CD sales rundown.
Their song Dakota topped the download chart for January to March, which contrasts sharply with the countdown of the best-selling CD singles.
The combination of physical and download sales in the Top 40 would lead to a "golden age for the single", BPI chairman Peter Jamieson predicted.

 Netimperative - UK tops poll for online TV pirates
In the last 12 months Envisional monitored illegal downloads of the series 24 and found numbers increasing from an average of 35,000 illegal downloads of each episode from series 3 in 2004 to an average of 95,000 downloads of each episode from the new series 4 in 2005.
The UK is the largest downloader of online pirate TV programmes in the world, with more than two-thirds of all pirated videos obtained from BitTorrent networks, according to new research.
Downloads of the new series Desperate Housewives have shot up, from 40,000 of episode 1 to over 60,000 for the most recent episode.

Web tracking company Envisional said 18% of downloaders were from within the UK and that downloads of TV programmes had increased by 150% in the last year.
A typical episode of 24 was downloaded by about 100,000 people globally, said the report, and an estimated 20,000 of those were from within the UK.
Downloads from within the US accounted for about 7%, according to the report.

Its not P2P or personal copies at home that should be of the greatest concern to the music industry -- its the massive counterfeiting operations spinning out 100s of thousands of discs for sale, both abroad and in North America.

In Europe, the online music market had been stuck in the starting blocks for a few years, but Jupiter reckoned the tide was finally on the turn.
Analysts at Jupiter Research say however, that they have cut their forecasts from earlier in the year when they got a bit excited and suggested much faster growth for music download sales.
Analysts at the Plug.IN Conference in New York today talked up the entrance of Apple into the online music market but, in a statement, Jupiter Senior Analyst Lee Black said that while Apple had rekindled interest in digital downloads, "total digital sales - downloads and subscriptions - will not surpass $80 million this year."
