 FROSTWORKS - Sentinel Climbing Nuts
The long nuts carry well on your climbing harness and their flexible stainless wire slings enable them to reduce rope drag without always requiring the extension of quick draws.
The main factors affecting nut performance are the nut's taper and the amount of surface contact it makes with the rock.
The taper (the angle between opposing surfaces of the nut as they contact the rock) is the primary parameter effecting all aspects of performance.

Inspect the placement for adequate constriction of the crack and test the nut's security (the degree to which it can resist being accidentally dislodged by the climbing rope) by giving an appropriately light outward jerk on the sling.
Nuts have the advantage over pitons in that they are more naturally at home in vertical placements.
A nut may even fit between knobs on the surface of the rock; a three -nut nest has been set between two knobs that was good enough for aid.

They are not expensive and nothing is more fun than climbing on a wall full of holds so you will need to plan for the future when adding T-Nuts.
The benefit of a T-Nut over a regular nut is the fact that it makes attaching and moving holds very easy and less time cosuming.
The other reason is because sometimes it's difficult to get to the back of the climbing wall to hold a nut while it's tightened.

Balance climbing was then seen as the only climbing style, which meant that a climber should be able to climb down what he had cautiously climbed up, a style that Paul Preuss pioneered and carried to extremes with his "no piton" ethic at the beginning of the century in the Alps.
John Brailsford believes however, that it is extremely difficult to credit anybody with the first use of machined nuts because, as with most of these things, it was the spontaneous practise of many people with an engineering background that was so commonplace in UK climbing circles at that time.
The nut runner worked on the same principle as the chockstone but it had the added refinement of having the sling threaded through the hole of the nut - a great advantage over carrying a pocketful of loose pebbles, then threading them, often "in extremis".

Ground squirrels will climb the bushes to harvest filberts and can take pecans and other thin-shelled nuts from the ground.
It is well to look at the local squirrel and bird populations and size up their possible effects before putting much time and effort into planting susceptible nut tree species.
This will work if the nut tree is isolated so that squirrels cannot jump from other trees, buildings, or wires to the nut tree, and if the lowest branches are too high for the squirrels to jump to them from the ground.
