The former summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria is located in the west part of the city in the middle of one of Munich's most beautiful parks.
The building of Nymphenburg Castle began in the reign of the Elector Ferdinand Maria: overjoyed by the birth of his son and heir, Max Emanuel, he had the central section built for his wife in the style of an Italian villa (Agostino Barelli, 1664-74).
The pieces on show comprise a comprehensive history of the products of the Nymphenburg porcelain manufactory (founded in 1761), which is based in the north-east section of the round tower in front of the castle.

The first porcelain factory producing German hardpaste was established in 1747 at the castle of Neudeck, outside Munich, by Maximilian III Joseph, elector of Bavaria.
In 1761 the factory was moved to Nymphenburg, on the outskirts of Munich, where it still operates.
The Nymphenburg factory mark, adopted in 1754, is the Bavarian shield of arms.

 Horse and Animal Figurines Virtual Display Case
The archives department at the Nymphenburg Porcelain Factory informed me that this piece was sculpted by August Gohring and was produced from 1930 to 1963.
It is actually titled in German, "Aufbaumendes Pferd" (sorry, I don't have the little accent marks), but in English is translated as "Rearing Stallion".
The sculptor A. Gohring was born on Sept. 25, 1891 in Thuringen, Germany and was a master artist at Nymphenburg between 1914-1965.

This rose has a strong floribunda heritage and displays more of the characteristics of a floribunda than a hybrid musk.
Most hybrid musks appreciate some shade but 'Nymphenburg' needs lots of sun to look good.
