Topic: Nymphidia

Genus: Details   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
As no evidence was provided to show that the change was "demonstratively intentional", the spelling Nymphidia does not rank as an emendation of Nymphidium Fabricius and has accordingly to be treated as an Erroneous Spelling of that name.
As explained in the note on the name Lephelisca Barnes & Lindsey, the name Nymphidia was treated by some authors (including myself) as the name of a separately established genus for some years prior to the definition in the present revised Code of the terms "emendation" and "incorrect subsequent spelling".
By the authors who took this view and who treated - correctly at that time - the nominal species Papilio cereus Linnaeus, 1767, as the type-species of the genus Calephelis Grote & Robinson, 1869, the name Nymphidia was treated as a senior subjective synonym of the name Lephelisca.

Roman Emperors - DIR Nymphidius Sabinus   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Among those to advance was Nymphidius, who became a colleague of Tigellinus in the praetorian prefecture after the latter's partner was put to death.
Nymphidius was the son of an imperial freedwoman, Nymphidia, and some speculate that his father was a gladiator named Martianus.
Nymphidius gradually consolidated his own authority over the praetorians, and his promise of material reward increased their willingness to declare for Galba during the provincial revolts of 68 A.D. which led to the senatorial rejection of

Similarly, despite some attempts to interject racial judgments into them, Joel Chandler Harris’s tales place the reader outside, watching the cunning resourcefulness of animals whose human-like pride is on the line.
Tolkien objects also to the grotesquely fantastic -- for instance, to the world of Drayton’s Nymphidia with its walls of spider’s legs and "windows of the eyes of cats." By its very "otherworldliness" the grotesque places limitations upon itself.
Nymphidia may show us the grotesque within us, but we do not see ourselves in it.

Michael Drayton Biography | Encyclopedia of World Biography
Drayton's ambitious Polyolbion (1612-1622), a long topographical poem, describes region by region the beauties and traditions of England and attempts to provide a legendary basis for the Stuart claim to the English throne.
The most important of the poems of Drayton's later years, his Nymphidia (1627), is a delicate mock-heroic tale of the fairy kingdom, peopled with characters like those that appear in Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream.
Although Drayton often lacks dramatic power and intellectual depth, he has been rightly praised for his versatility, narrative skill, and insight into character.

Rather, doing justice on him, let us revenge Nero's death, and show ourselves true and faithful by preserving Galba."
