I've had two Otos in a fairly new 110 liter tank for just over a week.
They initially stayed together for the first few days and devoured most of the algae that had developed through the cycle period.
I currently have 5 Otos in my large community tank.

The Oto Indians were part of the Southern Sioux tribes who lived along the Missouri River near the present-day border of Missouri and Nebraska.
Many of the Otos and Missouris were away hunting buffalo when the Lewis and Clark expedition reached their towns in July 1804.
The Otos were advised to make peace with other Indian tribes in order to bring the trade Lewis promised.

When a puffer would get too close, the smaller (surviving) oto would often try to swim close behind one of the danios in the tank, which are of a similar size and coloring.
Otos have a reputation for being delicate when they are first added to a tank.
I've lost one oto from each batch i purchased (1 of 2, 1 of 4), and i know that the second batch were well adjusted to the LFS tanks before i brought them home, so i don't think it's just transport stress.

Both my pleco and otos eat algae, there isn't any to be seen in the tank, and they also eat algae wafers.
The otos have been in the tank for almost a year now and the pleco has been in my 26 gallon for almost a month.
Otos, on the other hand, are straightforward vegetarians as far as I know, though it wouldn't surprise me to see one nibble a bit on a meaty treat once in a blue moon.

oto's have a very hard time getting used to a new tank in the first month they have up to an 80% death rate.
otos are great cleaners but they might eat the baby cherry shrimp.

I cannot see gill movement in the Otos to tell whether or not it is labored/more rapid.
Oto's and cory's go up to the surface every once in a while to get a gulp of air.
Oto's can be sort of delicate to acclimate, so that could be why they're affected and the shrimp aren't.

A local fish store just got a big stock of otos in, which are currently under quarantine.
They may be shrimp-friendly but once you drop any shrimp food in the tank, the otos' will be all over it in seconds and not leaving until it's all gone.
Unless you make a little shrimp hut that otos' can't penetrate they'll eat your shrimp food for sure.
