Topic: OASIS (organization)

In the News (Tue 14 May 13)

OASIS (organization) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) is a global consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of e-business and web service standards.
Like many bodies producing open standards, OASIS has a patent disclosure policy requiring participants to disclose intent to apply for software patents for technologies under consideration in the standard.
Supporters of OASIS point out this could occur anyway since an agreement would not be binding on non-participants, discouraging contributions from potential participants.

OASIS type countries do not have a physical commodity in their business and financial services, but there is certainly no lack of demand for such services.

XML.com: A Scalable Process for Information Standards
OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1993 whose already open and formal process has recently been revised to speed it up and implement some procedures electronically [1].
OASIS member sections, which are structures separate from the TC process, make possible the funding of efforts when an industry group wishes to collectively foster the development of a standard without making assumptions about its technical direction.
OASIS provides the electronic and organizational infrastructure for TCs, but it does not in the general case contribute resources, track different initiatives, or make policy; that comes from the "interested parties" who stand to benefit from the work.

OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) is a nonprofit, international consortium whose goal is to promote the adoption of product-independent standards for information formats such as Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), Extensible Markup Language (XML), and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
Currently, OASIS (formerly known as SGML Open) is working to bring together competitors and industry standards groups with conflicting perspectives to discuss using XML as a common Web language that can be shared across applications and platforms.
The goal of OASIS is not to create structured information standards for XML, but to provide a forum for discussion, to promote the adoption of interoperability standards, and to recommend ways members can provide better interoperability for their users.
