Harris & Associates - Investment Advice - OEIC
The shares in an OEIC are traded on a single pricing basis, unlike unit trusts which have a bid-offer spread.
Whilst a unit trust is limited to the creation of income and accumulation units, an OEIC allows the creation of different classes of shares to provide for different charging structures and denominations in different currencies.
OEICs are able to operate as “umbrella” structures with several funds within one company.

OEICs and Unit Trusts operate the same investment principle of pooling investors' money together in a wide range of investments, minimising the risk to the investor.
An OEIC provides the investor with a similar level of protection as the Unit Trust, but is governed by company law rather than trust law.
The taxation of an OEIC holding is exactly the same as that which applies to a Unit Trust holding.

The Northern Ireland Assembly - Minutes of Evidence: Open-ended Investment Companies
The reason was that OEICs are currently incorporated at the Northern Ireland Companies Registry, and the registry's functions were transferred to the Northern Ireland Administration under the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
However, at present, if an investor in Northern Ireland were unhappy about the management of an OEIC by a London-based company, he or she, as a citizen of the United Kingdom, could go to the Financial Services Authority.
For example, if the OEIC were to dissolve, you would benefit both from the return on investment and the current value of the OEIC at the time of dissolution.

Many of the OEICs under development are integrated with the control and support electronics at the module level to form small, but highly complex hybrid modules (see Figure 1).
Each of these OEICs is an optical subsystem that is destined to become part of a more complex subsystem that includes control and support electronics.
Some components on the OEIC are or can be isolated and tested independently from the rest of the components on the die, while others must be tested as a system.

Lightwave - Simulation and design tools address demands of WDM
OEIC technology is based on the waveguide properties of channels (or shaped layers) of material with refractive indexes higher than the surrounding media.
The central information that determines the performance of an OEIC is the refractive-index distribution as a function of the spatial coordinates, wavelength, and other parameters.
However, as the complexity of OEICs continues to grow, due to integration of more functionality onto a single chip, there will be a need for design tools that can manage this level of complexity.

Although not dissimilar to unit trusts and investment trusts, an OEIC is basically a company which can be self-contained or it can form an "umbrella" over a range of individual funds (sometimes referred to as sub-funds).
Instead of units, an OEIC issues shares and these can be of different classes - for example, for income accumulation, for income distribution, or classes where income is paid gross or net of lower-rate income tax.
Most OEICS operate as umbrella funds, where the OEIC is authorised and can then set up multiple sub-funds without the need for individual authorisation of each sub-fund.
