OGL System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The OGL System is an open roleplaying game system, published by Mongoose Publishing.
It is in fact the d20 System, but it was rewritten in order not to contain any licensed material; for example, the term "d20 System" was systematically replaced by "OGL System".
This system is published in the OGL Rulebooks.

RPGnet: Review of Live System OGL   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
System attempts to present a scalable system whereby GMs can adapt, in fact have to actively tweak, the rules in order to establish the style of play that is desired.
The System: The reasons the author gives for the creation of the Live System are very telling: “I'd written several d20 books based on the 3.0 edition but felt constricted by the limitations and expectations of the system and format.
This is the core alteration underpinning the Live System RPS, however it further dubs itself as a “modernized OGL system”.

Imagine a game system that you can use to play in a fantasy campaign, a science fiction campaign, a pulp action campaign or any other cinematic and heroic campaign you can imagine, without having to learn a new system each time.
OGL Alternatives: Alternate Advancement System provides Gamemasters (GMs) with an alternate method for calculating advancement that is both easy and fun to use.
UCS Lite, a rules-lite version of the Universal Concepts System, will be aimed at introducing new and young gamers to the Universal Concepts System, as well as offer a lighter version of the game to those that prefer a rules-lite approach to their cinematic action.

Open Game License and the d20 System - HERO GAMES Discussion Boards
OGL is supposedly a standardized rules-base that allows publishers and game makers to tap into a larger network of players than if they were to make their own unique system with a much smaller network of players.
The d20 system has been out long enough now for people to have played a lot of it and (inevitably) for some of those people to grow restless and decide they want something different.
There's not really a cohesive system you can point to at the core and say "That right there, that is d20." You may as well be learning a new game when you pick up another d20 book, even though it requires the Player's Handbook.

 FUDGE Open Gaming License FAQ
You might be able to declare the OGL to cover just the text of your work (saying that that is one work) and not to cover at all the art in your work (treating them as separate works, wholly outside of the OGL).
The OGL doesn't care whether you are a "nice guy trying to give somebody credit." It prohibits certain behavior, including some types of credits and references unless you have additional permissions from a license other than the OGL.
The problem is, the OGL is a license, not a system, and their are multiple very dissimilar games out their right now which are published under the OGL, and each is an OGL'd game.

It was a big decision for Jack Hobbs to change from a completely manual system to a computerised one, but the experience that OGL had in the merchant sector and the excellent references you offered, made OGL software the obvious choice.

However, the OGL was criticised (primarily by amateur role-playing game authors) for being insufficiently "open", and for being controlled by the market leader Wizards of the Coast (see d20 System for more information).
In response to this, and in an attempt to shift support away from the OGL and toward more open licenses, several alternatives to the OGL were suggested and drafted.

The OGL believes that it is more likely that a person who plays or has played a particular game or mod is a better candidate to administer the ladder(s) for that particular game or mod.
OGL admins are taught to recognize potential conflicts of interest and to pass such decisions to a higher authority (their League Official or to the VP of Operations).

Role playing systems tend to be packaged in a single volume, so all that is usually needed to play a new system is the main rulebook, some dice, paper, and a pencil.
The d20 system is loosely based of common themes found in the very popular Dungeons and Dragons RPG and writers need to obtain a license to produce anything with the d20 label.
I have ranked each game system listed with a complexity rating of 1 to 10 where 1 is very simple and almost no rules, while a 10 is a highly complex system with many rules specific to every situation.

GURPS Lite is similar to Wizards' System Reference Document in that it is a freely downloadable version of the rules, but unlike the SRD, GURPS Lite does not contain material that other publishers can use in conjunction with a licensing scheme.
The OGL is a good idea for them because it can boost sales of their core products without competing with them.

The system shouldn't make that any harder, so here, we provide a collection of things that a GM's going to want to know, but that the players don't need to.
Because Fate is designed to be plugged into a setting and reflect its specifics, a generic system woul d hardly be appropriate.

In my opinion, the current version of the d20 STL is not a license I would be comfortable using in a commercial work unless I was able to secure a release from Wizards prior to publication exempting me from the content clauses.
By altering the risk equation that must be considered by each party to the D20 System Trademark License in such a manner, in my opinion, it may now be more risky for a publisher to publish with the D20STL than without it.

Primarily this is done through "Year Books," annual sourcebooks that illustrate the major changes for the year and give players an overview of changes in political power, updates in major events, and an opportunity to potentially implement real-life events in-game.
Designed to combine realism and fluidity of play, the AOR System gives players a revolutionary amount of player control while only requiring a single roll of three six-sided dice to resolve every aspect of an action.
Using an attribute, plus skill, plus dice roll vs. target number mechanic, at the heart of the AOR System is the Action Opportunity Roll, an innovative concept that allows the player to decide where they want to put the emphasis for their character's action; balancing their dice between effectiveness of performance and speed of completion.
