The successor to the Hughes OH-6 "Cayuse" as the standard LOH (light observation helicopter), the Kiowa was built at so high a rate that no fewer than 2,200 were delivered to the US Army between May 1969 and the end of the American involvement in Vietnam.
Kiowas were in action in Vietnam by September 1969, swiftly becoming the preferred type for executive, liaison and light transport missions as well as undertaking all forms of reconnaissance and target acquisition.
The Kiowa had a two-bladed semi-rigid seesaw all metal main rotor and a two-bladed rigid delta hinge all metal tail rotor.

 OH-58D Kiowa Warrior - Military Aircraft
The Kiowa Warrior procurement plan is to acquire, through modification or retrofit of existing OH-58A and D aircraft, approximately 401 Kiowa Warriors.
The principal difference between the Kiowa Warrior and its immediate OH-58D predecessor is a universal weapons pylon on both sides of the aircraft capable of accepting combinations of the semi-active laser Hellfire missile, the Air-to-Air Stinger (ATAS) missile, 2.75" Folding Fin Aerial Rocket (FFAR) pods, and a 0.50 caliber machine gun.
Close team work between the U.S. Armed Forces and Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc. developed the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior in less than 100 days, to counter this threat.

In June 1970, Troop A of the 3rd Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry - radio call sign "Silver Spurs" - began receiving some of the first OH-58A "Kiowas" in Vietnam to replace the OH-6A "Cayuse" as the Army's scout helicopter.
The OH 58A+ has the Rolls Royce (Allison) 250-C20C (T63-720) engine installed with a larger tail rotor box and tail rotor blades.
I was able to fill him in on crew members of the 58, Cobra, and the CC Huey.
