The OK Dinghy is 50 years old this year, and to recognise this milestone, the New Zealand OK Dinghy Association will be holding a get together for all past and present OK Dinghy sailors to celebrate the anniversary of the class.
The OK Class has been a significant part of the New Zealand sailing scene, and has been one of the dominate nations on the world stage, ever since Clive Roberts won the Worlds back in 1973.
The OK Dinghy Worlds is usually limited to 82 boats, however in this, the 50th anniversary year of the OK Dinghy the limit has been lifted and well over 100 boats are expected.

 2007 OK Dinghy World Championship — Preview
Since the OK Dinghy became an international class in 1974, the maximum allowed at an OK Dinghy world championship has been 80 boats plus the previous champion.
The OK Dinghy was the brainchild of Danish architect Axel Damgaard Olsen.
With 125 boats on the start line, the 2007 event is going is to be one of the most hotly contested OK Dinghy World Championships, and with several events during the week to celebrate the class's 50th anniversary, should be as interesting off the water as it will be on the water.

In 1962 the OK Dinghy was accepted as an International class and OKDIA conducted the first World Championship for the class in Finland.
Tom was runner-up in the NSW OK Championship early this season and then competed in the recognised Youth events in the Laser later in the season.
Both Tom and David moved into OKs from the Sabot fleet in 2004 and have progressed their sailing development over the past three years with assistance from senior members of the OK Association and the Clive Roberts Trust.

Do remember that you are building an International Class Racing Dinghy to quite close tolerance and that it will only be allowed to race if it conforms to the prescribed measurements.

The OK DM2 is typically a flat sail normally combined with a very stiff rig - eg Celeidh.
The flat sail works in the lightest stuff with minimal leach tension, as the wind builds more sheet bends the rig and it remains very fast as the laterally stiff rig generates loads of power.
The other UK options appear to be C-Tech/NZ Quantum and Williams/PandB which all do ok but are not yet as allround as the Celeidh North option.
