  OMG IDL
We use OMG IDL to define the interface that sits on the outside of the boundary, allowing the only communication that the object conducts with the outside world.
OMG IDL is strongly typed: Typing is enforced at compile time (if you use an object-oriented language for your implementation).
Interfaces for OMG's standard CORBAservices, CORBAfacilities, and Domain Facilities are all specified in OMG IDL.

Cover Pages: OMG Model Driven Architecture (MDA)
Basically, the OMG is admitting that no model tainted with implementation considerations can survive the disjoint between multiple development groups, or different processing environments, as are common in Internet integration and establishing vertical alignment.
The OMG MDA is designed to protect software investments by providing a framework in which application infrastructure components, such as databases and programming languages, can be changed without requiring enterprises to change their underlying application architecture.
While the OMG's original impact on the software industry derived from the Corba standard's role in the middle tier, with the MDA launch, the body is promoting itself as a broader standards-setting group for the systems development community.

 Dr. Dobb's | Standard C++ and the OMG C++ Mapping | April 15, 2003
In the OMG C++ mapping, strings map to char*, wstrings map to CORBA::WChar* (where WChar is a typedef, usually for wchar_t), sequences map to classes, and arrays map to C++ arrays.
For sequences, the OMG C++ mapping is problematic in that the interfaces of the mapped C++ sequence classes lack certain functionality, such as vector operations.
Today's OMG C++ mapping is good at allowing you to build efficient applications, but is not as good at allowing you to build quick and dirty applications.

 OMG's CORBA
The OMG manages an open, vendor-neutral process which proposes technologies and invites proposals and invites feedback from any member company before coming to consensus on a final specification, which becomes an adopted standard.
CORBA is OMG's open, vendor-independent specification for an architecture and infrastructure that computer applications use to work together over networks.
OMG is mainly for companies who are developing software and want to contribute to the standards being developed by OMG.

Cover Pages: OMG Common Warehouse Metadata Interchange (CWMI) Specification
A key goal of OMG is create a standardized object-oriented architectural frame-work for distributed applications based on specifications that enable and support distributed objects.
OMG calls the specifications it has developed for the CWMI standard -- a landmark submission that follows the creation of the Extensible Markup Language (XML) by the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) and XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) by the OMG.
OMG also advocates CWMI as the standard which 'resolves potential integration issues by enabling users to extend the model to meet their specific needs.' The proposed standard is viewed as a boon to developers of Web-based projects.

MDA: An architecture for the e-business era
The core of the OMG's MDA is UML and a Meta-Object Facility (MOF) that makes it possible to model not only UML but any other metamodel, including CORBA and the OMG's new Common Warehouse Meta-model (CWM).
Wells Fargo's middleware approach was created before the OMG adopted its new MDA architecture, and it is one of the success stories that convinced the members of the OMG to formalize the Model Driven Architecture approach.
For 12 years the OMG has focused on making sure you can integrate what you've built with what you are building and what you will build in the future.
