		ONERA (Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aérospatiales) is the French aerospace research agency, operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense.

		ONERA (French National Aerospace Research Establishment), leading a consortium with the Observatories of Paris and Grenoble, has completed and delivered to the European Southern Observatory (ESO) the first adaptive optics system designed for the Very Large Telescope (VLT) located on the top of Mount Paranal in Chile.
		ONERA has dimensioned the system and designed the control system for changing the shape of the mirror which is deformed on the basis of information delivered by the wave-front analyzer to the computer which determines all the corrections to be made to the image.
		Beyond these tasks, ONERA has joined forces with and pooled the astronomy and instrumentation skills of the Meudon observatory, of the Grenoble observatory, and of the ESO, because the overall system is to be used by astronomers for observation purposes.

		Prominent among ONERA facilities are the large industrial wind tunnels located at the Modane-Avrieux Centre (CMA) in the French Alps, and at the Le Fauga-Mauzac Centre (CFM) near Toulouse.
		Every aircraft in the Airbus family has ‘flown’ in one or more of the ONERA wind tunnels, and a significant amount of wind tunnel testing is also performed for EU-supported projects in which ONERA is a partner or a subcontractor.
