Mississippi Office Of Nursing Workforce | Research - Analysis - Solutions
The Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce (ONW) is dedicated to furthering research and analysis of solutions to nursing workforce issues for purposes of public information.
Each of the programs and services ONW offers were developed from the analysis of countless surveys and studies conducted by a professional staff of statisticians in conjunction with nurses, healthcare administrators, allied health professionals, and educators.
ONW has developed a Nurse Residency Program for recent graduate nurses to improve education and practice and facilitate the transition from student to practicing nurse.

ONW identified two major objectives: (1) Develop and implement a systematic annual survey for nursing manpower needs and projections; and (2) Develop a competency model to assist students in articulation and mobility within the multi-level nursing education system.
The foundational philosophy for the ONW initiative is the belief that the health and welfare of the people of Mississippi are highly reliant on a competent nursing workforce, and that successful workforce development is dependent on each component of Mississippi's conceptual model.
ONW provides this information to nursing programs, and health care agencies seeking grants, or evaluation curriculum and clinical practice; to high school through PHD students conducting research; to state agencies, employers, and policy-makers for strategic planning and initiative development; and to other states for assistance in their workforce projects.

CAAB - ONW, 39th ASEW shaped the way AF deploys - 25/4//03   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Although not many people may have known it existed, the 39th ASEW was created Sept. 15, 1997, to provide the troops and equipment needed to support ONW’s mission of enforcing the no-fly zone over northern Iraq.
The 39th ASEW concept sought to organize deploying squadrons into a familiar structure, and relied on temporary duty augmentees to provide adequate numbers of personnel to support the mission.
Not only did the 39th ASEW directly contribute to ONW’s operational success, it also helped pioneer a concept that is here to stay — and ultimately shaped the way our Air Force deploys.

ONW pilots did not retaliate because Saddam Hussein places his radar, anti-aircraft artillery and surface-to-air missiles next to civilians.
To strike back, Forsyth said, is a simple calculation of risk vs. reward in a battle to maintain the status quo — keeping Iraqi fighters and helicopters from flying north of the 36th parallel and attacking Kurds on the ground.
Although ONW officers say they have received no indications of changes, the ONW no-fly mission now is often a “hold your fire” mission.

ONW planes are limited to 18 flying days per month, and ONW commanders can base no more than 48 aircraft at Incirlik.

Welcome to the Middle East Polcy Council web site.
The irony, of course, is that ONW and its predecessor, Operation Provide Comfort (OPC), are primarily responsible for the de facto autonomy the Kurds in northern Iraq currently enjoy.
By the time Ecevit became prime minister in 1999 and his party subsequently emerged as the largest from elections that year, the renewal of ONW had ceased to be as controversial an issue as its predecessor.
Ecevit, in fact, even agreed to an expansion of the rules of engagement for ONW aircraft patrolling Iraqi territory above the 36th parallel, enabling pilots to retaliate against Iraqi radar and missile tracking and firing incidents by choosing among a wider range of targets.
