  ONhistory: ONdigital - Overview
ONdigital was launched on the 15th November 1998, by Ulrika Jonsson at the Crystal Palace television transmitter in London.
On the 25th April 2001, ONdigital announced that Carlton and Granada were to "align" ITV and ONdigital.
Stuart Prebble (managing director of ONdigital) would be appointed Chief Executive of ITV, and ONdigital would re-brand on the 11th July to become ITV Digital.

ONdigital is the major digital terrestrial broadcaster in the UK whose shareholders, Carlton Communications and Granada Group both have a 50% interest.
ONdigital was successful in obtaining three of the four multiplexes advertised by the ITC, known as multiplexes B, C, and D. Some eighteen channels are available by subscription, and nine are currently free to air from the BBC and ITVchannels 4 and 5.
ONdigital will be most interesting to watch over the next year or so as subscriptions and transmitter roll-out to see if actual results match the forecasts that have been made.

Ondigital customers will soon be able to send and receive email via their TV sets, through a partnership between the digital TV operator and Scottish Telecom's ISP Demon Internet.
Ondigital's digital TV service is available now, but the company has not yet set a date or pricing structure for its email via the TV service.
Unlike Ondigital, satellite is already available across the UK from John O'Groats to Land's End, as well as Ireland.

At least four of Granada's top 20 shareholders are in favour of immediate withdrawal from ONdigital, according to a poll the FT said it conducted.
Two fund managers said Ondigital, which delivers digital television through  terrestrial TV aerials, was currently worthless, but said now was not the time to scrap it.
The report pointed out that the closure of ONdigital would deal a severe blow to the UK government's hopes of switching all viewers to digital services between 2006 and 2010.

 My Ondigital Experience
I have been in contact with Ondigital and they are aware of the problem and are looking into it.
As the decoder box seems to be driven by software and there is a option to update the software by downloading a new version via the aerial I guess the problem will be corrected later.
All the technology needed for a new buyer is already installed so it would be quite easy for a company to re-start ITV digital without all the costs involved etc. We will wait and see....

ONdigital's ambitious plans to generate substantial new earnings by offering subscribers internet access through its pay-TV services received a dramatic setback last night.
Granada, joint owner of ONdigital, is to stop selling the ONnet box in its 500 Box Clever stores.
In January, ONdigital chief executive Stuart Prebble said he was 'very pleased' that ONnet - which launched last September - had attracted 70,000 subscribers, each of whom pay £5 a month for the service.

ONdigital's Chief Executive Stuart Prebble said that in the first six months of 2000, ONdigital has been transformed from being a multichannel TV company to one with an interactive platform packed with new media services.
The move to the full Internet by ONdigital, which has already begun offering e-mail to its users, will greatly broaden the base of Internet usage in the U.K. At June 30 it had 740,000 paying subscribers and expects to have 1 million by next year and 2 million by the end of 2002.
